How old is your wiring?

How old is your Electrical Installation?

You can not see electricity, cables are usually hidden inside walls and consumer units are often hidden. So, its not surprising that we forget to check the condition of the electrical installation for damage.

Faulty and old wiring is one of the main causes of electrical fires. You can reduce the risk of a fire by checking the condition of your cables and switches etc.

This can also affect your buildings insurance, most insurance companies require that your electrical installations are up-to-date and within current IET Wiring Regulations.

We recommend a NICEIC periodic inspection should be carried out to ensure your electrical installations meet IET Wiring Regulations.

The IEE recommend the following maximum periods of time between inspections and testing:

Commercial Installations - 5 years or change of occupancy

Industrial Installations - 3 years

Offices, shops & laboratories - 5 years

Residential accommodation - 5 years or change of occupancy

Domestic Installations - 10 years or change of occupancy
